Meet Santa near Stevenage: garden centre breakfasts 12 to 24 December from £11.99, a dog-friendly Paws and Claus from £6.99, and Church Farm's woodland grotto.

Stevenage has no shopping centre grotto announced for 2026, so the confirmed places to meet Father Christmas this year are just outside the middle of town. Stevenage Garden Centre on North Road runs Santa breakfasts and afternoon teas through December, and Church Farm Ardeley has a woodland grotto as part of its festive farm.

The quick answer

Breakfast with Santa at Stevenage Garden Centre runs from 12 to 24 December 2026, with tickets from £11.99, booked online only. The same centre has a Paws and Claus breakfast for dogs and their owners from 4 to 11 December (from £6.99), a baby and toddler breakfast from 14 to 18 December and afternoon tea with Santa from 19 to 23 December (from £16.99). Church Farm Ardeley’s woodland grotto is listed from £9.95, on top of a festive farm pass from £7.95, but the farm has not published its 2026 start date. Prices were read from each organiser’s booking system on 3 October 2026.

Stevenage Garden Centre: four ways to meet Santa

Stevenage Garden Centre, at North Road and Graveley Road, SG1 4AH, is run by British Garden Centres. It does not list a walk-in grotto. Instead Father Christmas visits a set of sit-down sessions in the restaurant, each booked online in advance with limited numbers (British Garden Centres, Stevenage events).

Session 2026 dates Ticket prices listed
Paws and Claus breakfast, for you and your dog 4 to 11 December £6.99 to £11.99
Breakfast with Santa 12 to 24 December £11.99 to £17.99
Baby and toddler breakfast with Santa, up to age two 14 to 18 December £11.99 to £12.99
Afternoon tea with Santa 19 to 23 December £16.99 to £17.99

Prices from the centre’s booking page (British Garden Centres, Stevenage Santa restaurant experiences).

What each one includes, from the event pages:

  • Breakfast with Santa: a cooked breakfast, a meeting with Santa, photos and a personal gift. The centre calls it an alternative to a grotto (event page).
  • Baby and toddler breakfast: for babies and toddlers up to two, with a cooked breakfast for the adult, a breakfast pouch or children’s breakfast, stories from Santa, a gift and a photo opportunity (event page).
  • Afternoon tea with Santa: a tower of treats, a photo with Santa, a gift and the chance to hand over letters (event page).
  • Paws and Claus: a cooked breakfast for you, a festive goody bag for your dog, and a one-to-one meeting with Father Christmas, with a free doggy Santa hat (event page).

Two things to know before you book. Photos are taken by the parent or guardian, not by staff. And the centre asks you to fill in the additional information section of the booking, which is where you tell Santa about your child.

Church Farm Ardeley: a woodland grotto on a working farm

Church Farm, Ardeley, SG2 7AH, out past Walkern, turns into a Festive Farm for December. The day pass covers the animals, the farm trail, hunting for Christmas elves and bears, secret fairy doors, a winter woodland play area and a festive activity booklet for each child. Dogs are welcome and parking is free (Church Farm Ardeley, Festive Farm and Santa’s Grotto).

Santa is an add-on, and you must book a festive farm pass for every person as well. Prices on the farm’s booking system (Church Farm Ardeley, booking):

Item Price listed
Festive Farm Day Pass £7.95
Father Christmas in his woodland grotto, with presents from £9.95
Santa Paws, a grotto visit for your dog, with treats and a present from £7.95
Festive trailer ride with Farmer Elf £3.50 a person
Harvest your own Christmas tree (space reservation) £5, then £20 for trees up to 5ft and £25 over 5ft

The grotto visit starts with elves, a wish for the Christmas wish tree, and a bag of reindeer food to take home, and children choose a present from Santa.

The 2026 start date is not confirmed. The booking system’s category blurb says “Starts Saturday 29th November”, but 29 November 2026 is a Sunday, so that line looks carried over from 2025, when the 29th was a Saturday. The farm says it is taking bookings at last year’s prices. Call 01438 861447 to check the opening day before you plan around it.

What about the town centre?

The council’s 1 October programme lists the Stevenage Christmas Lights Switch On on Saturday 21 November at Event Island, the Old Town switch-on on Saturday 28 November and a Kid Zone at Event Island on Saturday 5 December. It does not mention a grotto (Stevenage Borough Council, “Free events for all this autumn and winter”, 1 October 2026). The town centre events page still says “We’ll keep you posted!” with no listings (Stevenage Town Centre, events). We will add a town centre grotto here if one is announced. The switch-on details are on our Christmas lights page.

The Knebworth Christmas Fair, 27 to 29 November, does not list Father Christmas among its attractions (Knebworth Christmas Fair, show info); it is covered on our Christmas market page.

Getting there and parking

Stevenage Garden Centre is at the junction of North Road and Graveley Road, on the north side of town. Church Farm’s parking is free. For town centre trips over Christmas, tariffs and the pay-by-plate change are on our parking in Stevenage page, and road closures for the switch-on and any December works are on our roadworks and travel page.

For the panto, Snow White at the Gordon Craig from 27 November, see our panto page.

Still to be confirmed

  • Church Farm’s 2026 festive opening date.
  • Any town centre or shopping centre grotto, expected in the council’s November switch-on announcement if there is one.
